Lost Keys/Old Projects

Thursday night I was chatting with a friend about artwork. She had expressed the desire to teach herself how to draw, eventually in hopes of starting a webcomic. I always love it when people show a desire to learn something new. People, in general, seem far too passive about creativity. We are, after all, a consumer culture. Creating new media can be a difficult role reversal.During the course of the conversation, we stumbled upon CG and animation. I had done a bit of animation years ago during the...

A cupful of fangirldom and a spinkle of authorship

Ayanami Rei is my favorite character from the series. Back when I was working on City of Light: InterLock, I decided to borrow her character design for my character of Tera Rogue. Bluish-grey hair and red eyes have evolved into an anime archetype. InterLock never got anywhere, of course. The story is still somewhere in my notes, but I haven't a clue what to do with it, if anything. For a while I was entertaining the idea of a large story involving Avatar://Create, a friend's idea for a story,

One month later...

"Novella and Mirror" by CallieIt's been a month since I released the last revision of the Novella outline. I promised that I'd write about the outline and analyse if I consider it a success or failure. I did write a bit about it before, but it was a much broader entry than I preferred. To put it bluntly, I'm disappointed in Revision 5. While some 10 pages of new material were added to the outline, many of them did not live up to their promise. I did not feel the revision progressed the story any further...

Guest Strip

Last Monday I decided to put together a filler strip for the TG webcomic "Closetspace" by Jenn Dolari. After chatting with her online about my idea for the comic, she suggested that I'd add an extra panel and a line of dialog. The result was a full-blown comic that was also a guest strip.I had drawn the strip in my style, rather than try to replicate the style of Ms. Dolari. I decided on this mostly because I don't have much experience in other styles, and I thought an different style would be nice...

The Melancholy of Noel Quinton

I came up with Novella's outcry sometime last friday. Although I haven't watched more than a few of the series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, I've watched enough to mock it's silliness. Half of the problem with my slow progress in watching the show is that I tend to watch the most anime when I'm flying somewhere for work purposes. I watch anime on my PSP for an hour or so before deciding to read or nap. This anime isn't exactly "plane safe". In case you're interested, I've watched Blood+, Noien, and...

Corruption via Assimilation

I ran across Gmail for Domains a while ago. Since I haven't had any luck setting up a email system for deninet, I decided to give it a try. But first, we need a logo: What, too...

Critical Resource

I've been taking a terrible beating this week. Or rather, my body has. I'm in the dead middle of a three week run of assignments at work. Last week I was in my favorite city in the known world, Portland Oregon. It's difficult for me to describe just exactly why I like Portland so much over other places I've had the opportunity to visit. The landscape is astonishingly beautiful. Never before has this young professional from Minnesota seen such tall trees. The weather was also a pure...

"Old-school Tess"

I first imagined Novella sometime in my sophomore year of college. Actually, I first imagined the character of Novella. I was returning from a shopping trip with one of my closest friends. We often went on shopping trips on the weekend given the "uncivilized" nature of our college town. We were accustomed to living in the cities, and having a wide variety of capitalist distractions to choose from. To get anywhere near those shops, we had to drive 40 minutes to an hour and a half through corn...

Deadlines

In about a week, Revision 5 Novella Outline is going to be released. Normally, I would be excited. Or, at least, I'd expect to be excited. When the release date for Revision 4 drew near some months ago, I could barely contain myself. I may have been tired and exhausted, but I knew I was producing more for the story than every has been produced. But this week and this revision, I feel disappointed, even uninterested. You see, I haven't worked on the outline for almost two weeks.I wish I could...
