More firsts

Today was my first evening shift. Also the first time I drove in to work instead of taking the train, on account of not wanting to be out as late as I'd have to otherwise. That was the scariest part, full of anxiety and nerves that I'd miss my turn-off. I didn't miss it, but I did make some wrong turns near my destination. Fortunately I kept my head and used what I'd learned about the area from walking and otherwise and managed to find an alternate route without much difficulty.

That went a long way to easing my nerves. Meanwhile for the actual shift I am doing better again than before, although there is always more to learn, as the more senior staff tend to reassure me. Pretty busy for a while, but not as overloady as yesterday. Possibly this is because it was a shorter shift and because the library was winding down for the later parts of it.

I also got my first ever payslip today, for the work I did last week which was at the end of the library's pay cycle. Fortunately someone pointed out to me that I should collect it, or I would not have known as I have never seen one of those before. Did not even realise there was a physical record I got to take home. I am actually a bit worried, as on examination it seems they are paying me at a higher rate than was told to me in the offer of employment I was sent. While more money is great, I am going to have to ask around and find out who to discuss this with and ascertain if this is an error. Would rather get that taken care of now than have to pay more back later, possibly after I'd spent it.

Would be great, of course, if this turns out not to be in error, but that seems unlikely.

Driving back was much easier because I knew where to find my destination much better. It was dark, and for a little while I thought I saw in the distance a faint-glimmering sheer veil that may have been the mountains and the lights of homes there like little scattered twinkles.
