Attempts to Have a Weekend
I spent this morning working on Addie’s Chromebook. She wanted to get Arch on it and replace Chrome OS. It mostly works, but suspend and resume seems a bit buggy at the moment. I might take some time this weekend to try to iron out those problems.
I was hoping to hang out with her today after I was done, but that didn’t happen. One of Addie’s friends is buying their first car today and need the moral support. I completely understand, but it did take the enjoyment out of my impromptu plans. I’m trying not to let it get to me, but when that happened, it felt like everyone in the house was about to swoop down and allocate all my time for me. I needed to get out.
I did get out, but not having a car is continuing to be rather frustrating. I’ve often thought it would be nice to have one again, but then I keep remembering it’s not just the insurance cost, but the cost of the car too. The sewer line repair cost a lot, and I would need to start dumping a lot more money into it to pay it off without the interest killing me. I could probably start by doubling payments, instead of just paying the minimum….
Ugh. I need to think about something else.
So far this weekend I’ve gotten in a good amount of Splatoon playing, worked on Addie’s laptop, leaving three more things I’d like to do: Flag, draw something, and update Pashy’s laptop. The latter I might try to do tonight, since she’ll need to run a backup and then attempt a base package update within her distro version. Later we could try a dist-update. That might even work, but it’s hard to be sure. Maybe I should have just put Arch on it instead. Debian’s hard distro update mechanism is annoying.
Flag will take some time to get myself back up to date. There’s been a lot of issues over the last two months, and I haven’t had time for it given the two sessions I wrote. They aren’t bad sessions, but I’m unsure if I’ll ever give them again. Drupalcon Barcelona is out simply due to lack of funding. I was invited to go, but without money, I can’t do anything to support it. I also can’t think of any more events I’d like to go to this year. The Midwest Developer Summit was earlier this week, and that couldn’t happen either. It’s really, really frustrating.
