Her namesake, at least, had multiple lives

My Sony Vaio laptop, Rei, may be on her way out. She seems to have developed an issue resulting in a complete system freeze. As the failure is in both Linux and Windows, and she passed hard drive and memory tests, I can only assume her motherboard is damaged.

If that's so, I'll need to by a replacement in the next week. I could survive for a while using my company laptop, but I'd much rather have my own. Furthermore, I don't plan on buying cheap. Rei cost some $1300 after upgrades, and was completely satisfied until this issue surfaced.

Even a slightly cheaper 'top will set me back a good $800. I was hoping Rei would last at least until after SRS so I could save the money. Now it looks like I have no choice. Thankfully, I did pull a backup of most of the documents on her. The hard drive seems unaffected by whatever is ailing it.

This is just another in a series of hardware failures I've had lately. My stylus for my graphics tablet is badly cracked but still salvageable. My portable hard drive (the drive is work's, I own the enclosure) became unseated and corrupted the file system. My car also seems to have an A/C problem.

*sigh* Can everything just hold together long enough for me to be post-op? Please?
