Chaos in your Christmas Tree

[img_assist|nid=215|title=It's laughing at you.|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=141|height=250]It occurs to me this morning that the Christmas Tree is one of the best examples of humanities own madness. For all it's hulliballoo about the reign of law and order, we continue this bizarre tradition.

When you ask people "Do trees belong in the home?" most people would respond, "Of course not, don't be silly, man! Have some sense about you!" Yet, to this day we expend a great deal of effort once a year to take something that belongs outside the home, inside the home. This seems perfectly normal even to those people that had previously answered that trees do not belong inside the home.

But it's worse than that. Not only do we put trees inside our home once a year and think it normal (or even something to look forward to!) but we've created entire industries to grow these trees, distribute them, and decorate them! To further this madness, we even create artificial trees! It all seems a lot of effort for trees that most certainly do not belong inside the home.

If I were to leave my Christmas tree up year-round, (more) people would think me daft. Likewise, if I were to take my artificial tree and leave it outdoors year-round amongst the other trees, (even more) people would think me daft. Despite all of this, it seems perfectly acceptable to have fake, decorated trees in your living room around the month of December.

Nevertheless, humanity reserves the right to get all uptight about this nonsense. It's almost as if we're saying, "don't upset my perfectly ordered madness!"
