deninet5.1 and Starlights Beta

One thing I've been working on for the site, in addition to the new Starlights (or Akisa Web) theme is a general upgrade. A new core version of drupal had come out, and several modules had updated since I first started to use Drupal. I took this as an opportunity to update the whole lot. Now deninet is running Drupal 4.7.4. Several modules were updated, and a few new ones were added:Capcha - Was installed but never enabled. Updated. im - Never enabled. Removed.logintoboggan - Was enabled, but never...

Transgender Day of Rememberence 2006

You are not forgotten. This year I actually managed to post one before the 20th. I spent the last three days putting this together. It's perhaps the most complicated layout I've yet done. It required three separate drawing layers with digital compositing. Even then the coloring was tricky given the complexity of the piece and the interplay of the reflected layer. The concept is that you're looking through Novella's eyes. In the glass of the frame is her reflection post Transition. She's looking at a...

Akisa Web Theme #7

Okay, so the site kinda ground to a halt for a while. The last three weeks I've gone from occasional artistic output, to absolutely nothing, to a few cryptic posts. Let me give you a quick run-down:Three weeks ago I had a horrible, horrible weekend. My laptop suffered a strange library corruption that required a reinstall of windows. My Satellite radio broke, requiring a replacement. And finally, I got into a car accident in my new Kia Rio 5. As you can imagine, I was not happy about any of this. The...

Zombie Tess

To make things clear, I'm not dead, nor is the site. The last two weeks have been rather difficult and it hadn't left me with much time or energy in order to do anything creative. I hope that this will change...

Bakacafe.com

I threw this together for a friend that is starting his own blog site. The idea was pretty simple. I needed something that would resound both "cafe" and "baka" -- the Japanese word for idiot. The cafe part was the easiest, a simple cup and saucer. But how do you exemplify the "baka"? Perhaps my brain is poisoned by too much anime, but I can imagine some hapless waitress character mistakenly serving a dead fish in a coffee mug.Hence you have the baka -- the dead fish -- and the cafe. Put them together and...

Not so stuck...I think

I've been having quite a bit of trouble with the new Akisa Web Theme, and unfortunately, there seems no end in sight. Still, I've finally made some headway.By far the biggest problem I've had with the image is the background. Usually I only give terse attention to anything except the characters. For the most part, this approach works well for me. Eventually I have an idea of what the background should look like and I start drawing it. The downside of this method is occasionally, I foul things up...

Akisa Web Theme #1

Recently, I've had the desire to create a Novella-centric website theme for a while. The problem was that I hadn't a clue what to do for it. Then, while browsing the AnimeNfo page, my muse struck.I really wish she was a little more consistent. She's prone to manic periods of activity followed by lengthy, mind-numbing absences. I had been working on site design ideas since June, and only now in October she has one that doesn't stink...The image currently only shows Akisa, but has been roughly spaced for...

Snowblind

It was some months ago that I had the fortune of watching Babylon 5 again. I hadn't watched the show in years, and it was exceedingly difficult to find it rebroadcast even on cable stations. I had absorbed the show, watching several episodes a day for weeks on end. It's unfortunate that the series is so easily overlooked in comparison to the behemoths of Star Trek and Star Wars. The writing is far, far superior to any other space opera I have had the fortune to watch. It was also a difficult...

Devoid

The sound of the nearby highway always comforted her.She could never explain why, of course. It was something about the sound of activity, of something moving or working that wasn't completely automated. The sound of the highway wafted into her apartment, falling onto the pale blue carpeted floor, a mix of stone and metallic. It was her personal reminder that she wasn't alone.Except for the fact she was alone. She had barely left the apartment all day. She hadn't even washed her clothes as...
